That is just great stuff. From the Hobbes POV complete with eye closings, to the barrel roll, to the hat stuck in the tree & the ticked off cardinal. And we see why Hobbes is Calvin’s best friend; he wants to do it again.
At first I thought Calvin was taking a feature length selfie, then I realized cell phones were far less common, and much more cumbersome, than they are now. It tends to show how far ahead of his time Watterson was. Now we need him to come up with a strip about Calvin and a jet-pack.
Watterson’s artwork (and imagination) is fantastic. Sunday strips have to be blown up to get a full appreciation. But the black panels (Ooh ah ee ack ow) with “I kept closing my eyes” is frosting on the cake!
My two sons, Rick and Tom to a T when they were about 8&6. A lot of their exploits led straight to the pediatrician and more stitches. This was back in the early 1960s and Docs stitched up patients in their office. The Doc once jokingly offered me a sterile kit to take home saying, “You’ve watched me stitch up these boys so many times you could just do this yourself”. :-) Rick is now a farmer and still gets stitches on a regular basis. Tom is an engineer so lives a little safer.
Lucky for the cardinal he got out of the way in time!Incidentally, there was an article in our paper where someone spotted a cardinal that was red on one side, and brown on the other! Male and female?
Yep, Hobbes first person. Great art!Just gotta ask… Calvin and Hobbes ended in the early 90’s – Bill Watterson didn’t want to run it off its wheels, and only made the comics for 10 years. So why is this dated 2015?
