A somewhat enlarged image can be found at Mr. Melcher’s blog entry (yesterday). As @Baslim … noted (thanks!), this is (again) a cropped image. The event took place in 1909.Flight of the Wright Biplane (Envole d’un Biplan Type Wright, link shows Wikipedia page) is privately owned. A description can be found here.A slightly-different-coloration, maybe-click-to-enlarge image, can be found here. According to this (use page down to see all), the artist also did, an illustration (left) of it for the New York Herald, and an engraving (right) of it (click either for larger)
The artist’s Wikipedia page and collection (more under Subcategories).Fourth work, by this artist, to appear here, 3 of which, so far, have also appeared in Mr. Melcher’s blog.
Wrong dates don’t bother me nearly as much as wrong artist’s names (especially when the hard-to-see-here signature is part of the painting). Contrary to some earlier wrong dates posted by Mr. Melcher, at least the artist was alive and an adult in 1879.Also, thanks for the http link to a more complete image than my slightly cropped image links. As far as I know, my embedded images aren’t cropped.
Thank you! I immediately saw that the date was wrong, as the Wrights didn’t fly successfully until December of 1903, and NO-one was flying aeorplanes as early as 1879.
