I think I am going to nominate Richard Sherman – I prefer my jerks to be nonviolent offenders, and participants rather than mere overlords.

I’m going with Goodell.

It’s getting to the point where we need a second category: sports criminal of the year.

On the subject of losing, the NYT has reported the passing of Ernie Banks. Source NYT: “Ernie Banks, the greatest power-hitting shortstop of the 20th century and an unconquerable optimist whose sunny disposition never dimmed in 19 seasons with the perennially stumbling Chicago Cubs”

Sort of ironic that the SJOTY nominations begin at the same time Ernie Banks, who was antithetical to all things SJOTY, passes away. No rainouts or dark of night in Heaven, Ernie…Let’s play three.

Kurt Busch has to be a perennial nominee, he won’t stop trying until he wins.

Unless the rules have changed, criminals are barred from being “mere” Sports Jerks of the Year. I’d love to see a list of all the winners down the decades. I’ve read ‘em all at the time, I’m sure, but it would be nice to be reminded of people I used to hate before their inherent mediocrity made me forget all about them!
