True story. In at least one major American city, the ridership of the public transportation, weighed against its cost to maintain and operate, makes it more efficient to hire a car and driver to move people around as needed rather than maintain a fixed schedule transportation system.
Sounds more like a Roman god’s name to me. And according to one of my former employers, there are two places in the world where Salvation Army officers, especially at the territorial HQ level or higher, are not provided with vehicles but are expected to use public transportation to get around: NYC and London. The cities are, they figure, just too crowded to operate vehicles economically.
