Another piece of firework funeral trivia is that the memorial service and fireworks were paid for by actor Johnny Depp who became friends with Hunter late in life. He wanted to make sure his last wishes were granted.

According to Wiki, Hunter S. Thompson’s ashes were not loaded into fireworks, they were shot out of a cannon. At the same time, a fireworks display was set off, but Thompson’s ashes weren’t a part of it
