Some plants are highly sought after by some cats as food. Yang used to love popcorn, and his special treat was the stems from the chili rellenos that Mom brought home from the restaurant.
For anyone thinking of trying this at home – grapes are actually toxic to cats. And lilies are even worse. A cat that eats some lily and doesn’t go to the vet until there are symptoms is probably a dead cat. (we had a $2000 vet bill)
Well, for goodness’ sake! My 3 (mongrel) cats are in and out all day. They eat what they want to and have sense enough, for the most part, to stay away from things that are not good for them (jimson weed, copperheads, rattlers, wild grape etc.)I have lost one cat to unknown causes, but that’s a 75% success rate for them.
Tell me about it. It’s absolutely impossible to find any sort of a ready-made cat food that has no plant matter of some sort in it. “You get what you pay for” doesn’t apply either. It just means that as it gets more expensive, the plant matter gets more exotic.
Our cat didn’t hunt – he was friends with everything. However, he liked fruit yogurts, loved blue cheese and some of the fruitier red and white wines. (And before you jump all over this, he lived to a pretty healthy 18.5 years. His wine habit consisted of the drops of wine off four finger tips.)
Would anyone know why my cat craves rubber bands? Mine almost goes manic just seeing one and will knock waste baskets over to find one. I have to be verrrryyy careful to dispose of them safely.
Jayat, we have one like that {the one who likes ramen noodles – see yesterday’s comments}; she also likes to lick photos. We really have to watch her! I call her our “Drug Baby”. Another likes to lick envelopes & chew on plastic bags. They all seem to like to chew on the clear packing tape on boxes received in the mail. We have to be conscious to keep all of that stuff out of their reach!!The again, one likes to chew on & lick my husband’s hair… Go figure…

When Christmas rolls around, remember, cats & tinsel don’t mix. It attracts them but if swallowed it can be deadly.

@David_42 … C’mon, there is nothing tastier than a dollop of Fancy Feast spread on a saltine to take the hungries away … :)

We had a cat that loved pizza crust. If you weren’t watching he would jump up on the table and abscond with it.

If we were truthful with ourselves about what cats eat, we’d have songbird and rat as a Friskies flavor choice.

Not all plants are toxic to cats. They can eat spider plants, not that you would want them to eat your plants. ;)
