Wikipedia has a mind-numbingly thorough discussion of what linguists call T-V, the use of different second-person pronouns to reflect social status, age, wealth, power, etc. One of the reasons I rejoice in being born into the English language is that English gave up all that thou/thee/you/ye junk centuries ago.
Pronoun trouble. It’s not: “He doesn’t have to shoot you now.” It’s: “He doesn’t have to shoot me now.” Well, I say he does have to shoot me now!
Various comments:It’s “Kiddest thou?”, at least in form, tho(ugh) I doubt “kid” was ever used then except for goats.A Southerner once told me the plural of “y’all” is “all y’all”.Never heard “yinz” but have heard “yiz”.Every not-invented language is nonsensical, but consider that relatively logical German has “der/die/das/den/dem/des” where we have just “the”, and the occasional sillinesses in English seem quite minor…except for our awful spelling: DOWN WITH GH!!
