    When I had dial-up I needed to download a 15 megabyte update. Tech told me people usually start the download then go to bed.

    I first encountered a modem while working at a radio telescope in Tucson many, many years ago. When we had to upload data from the instrument, we used a 300-baud modem. And we were happy to… never mind.

    I remember when the Internet was so slow, I’d click on a link to open a page then go make a sandwich while it loaded.
