“Except for the duck-billed platypus” was a frequent expression in biology class. Nature, obeying the laws of nature since 1766.

“…and you may end up like Oedipus / (I’d rather marry a duck-billed platypus) / Then end up like old Oedipus Rex!” Tom Lehrer.

The times, they are a-changin’! Social mores aren’t what they used to be even in the platypus community….

This is the only thing I found on Duck-billed platypus’s mating rituals. The platypus mating season is between June and October. Around 2 years of age, both male and female platypuses are ready to mate. After successfully mating, two or three eggs develop in the female. After about a month, the female lays the eggs, which are soft like lizard eggs. She will incubate the eggs by curling around them for 10 days before they hatch.
