Hey – that was dinner tonight. Popcorn and guava juice, no kidding. My husband couldn’t even handle chunky soup, so I thought this was a safer bet. This darn flu just keeps coming back this year, never saw anything like it.
I just made some recently and forgot how much is popped at once! Though, I prefer it to the over-salted microwave popcorns available. At least this way, I can control how much salt and butter I add.
I don’t quite get why Janis said that. Is it simply because he made an extraordinary amount because he cooked it on the stove top? I have used a WhirleyPop for years and with yellow popcorn it produces very large and tasty kernels with very few unpopped. Plus using only about a tablespoon of oil it only adds around 100 calories to the popcorn.
I microwave unflavoured popcorn. Meanwhile I’m quickly melting real butter on the stove and adding a tablespoon of corn syrup and a pinch of salt. It all comes together in about 130 seconds. Mmmmmm.
Try eating popcorn with the following, for a real treat: cut-up Kraft caramels, M&Ms, Chocolate Stars, and especially candy corn. Tastes wonderful, as good as a fresh popcorn ball without as much work.
The first row of our ‘eatin’ corn was popcorn, then 3 or 4 rows of what I just said. Waitin’ ‘til Christmas to pop the corn and string it on the tree was fun for the times. I sure miss that old iron kettle, though. Don’t miss the times we had to use it, fer sure !!
popcorn in the microwave using a PLAIN PAPER BAG !!!!!try it sometime; no salt, no oil here, either. It doesn’t catch fire, really!!! Honestly, though, I prefer mine on the stove. Can control just how many burnt ones there are, not too many, not too few.
How does homegrown popcorn taste different? Stronger? More “corny”? More chewy? +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++I tried growing popcorn for the first time last year, but unfortunately started a bit too late in the season and they did not mature fully. I am hoping for great luck this year.
Didn’t much care for popcorn as a kid, always got stuck in my teeth.
Now I like a little local farm in Indiana that has fancy varities. Mostly because they have a hull-less kind that DOESN’T get stuck in my teeth. And I know for a fact that you can take any pop corn kernals and stick them in a paper bag to microwave pop them just fine.

I love stove top popcorn! Maybe it’s because I can tinker with it to match my exact tastes, but I prefer it to microwave.

No lard in it and diacetyl butter flavoring has been removed. All I can say about “uh-oh” is "Uh-oh, you are wrong!

He needs a bigger bowl…..

Why should Arlo go back to a ‘little’ bag of microwave popcorn? He never puts on any extra pounds. Janis, you are just ‘pie-eyed’ jealous.

But no taste. And you can’t salt it because it doesn’t have any oil on it for the salt to stick too.

If you fry your bacon the old fashioned way…save the grease and use it to pop your popcorn in….tried it…it’s good!!!!

I’ve had a long time love affair with popcorn. I’ve never tired of it and I’ve been enjoying it since I was a kid.

All I know is, after all the ‘pop-corn’ talk is: “Janis, eat your heart out!!!”
