At the time of this strip, Charles Schulz lived in a tiny Northern California town called Sebastopol, Within the next year, his studio burned down and he moved 10 miles east, to Santa Rosa…a bigger city on the main highway, 55 miles north of San Francisco…
I’ve lived in Santa Rosa, myself, since the early 1970’s… and Petaluma is 14 miles south of here.
Stephan Pastis lives in Santa Rosa, too…and the Schulz museum is here, run by Charles Schulz’s widow, Jean.
The wrist wrestling championships in Petaluma were real…and Schulz would have heard about them. They ended about a dozen years ago… a couple of years after he died.
BJ Hunnicutt, a character on M.A.S.H., was supposed to be from Petaluma..but people around here laughed…cos he pronounced it “Pet-TAL-yuma” and it’s actually “Pet-a-LOOM-a”.
Zippy the Pinhead with his penchant for repeating strings of peculiar words was probably influenced by these types of episodes (but who among us wasn’t?)
The bear on the state’s flag is reflective of the bears of CALIFORNIA, not RUSSIA!!!!! While Russians did colonize the area, they didn’t stay very long!!! Don’t create a false history!!!

“All his arms”? Lucy apparently thinks Snoopy is an octopus. He has two arms and two legs, like all cartoon animals. Duh!

I know that the wrist-wrestling championship is held in Petaluma, but why is Snoopy getting confused every time someone says it? I don’t get it…
