It’s been awhile, but it seems telling time waits until after kindergarten. (I can’t remember exactly which grade level.) After all, the children need to be able to count up to 60, and understand what a fraction is, before teaching them to read a clock. (I taught my sons both analog & digital at the same time.) In kindergarten, we worked on learning the calendar.
It’s been too long for me my two are adults. Ruthie you have a point. When was this strip done.
With KS budget cuts there maybe more kids like James and the bully who loose out as cuts happen and class size gets bigger.
Well, all this is just a setup to a punchline in a joke, after all. Not of the best – in a really good joke, the setup is rock-solid realistic, which makes the punchline punchier! :) – but it will do.

Modern kids mostly cannot read an analog clock, just digital.

I don’t recall if they started last year or not, but my first grader is learning telling time (analog) this year.
