It’s so hard to get the mother out of the mom.

Mothers mean well, bless ‘em, but they always tend to see their children as kids, no matter how old the “kids” are. This is why they sometimes hear the response of, “Yes, MOTHER.”

Accompanied by at least one exasperated sigh and a dramatic roll of the eyes.

I had a pacemaker implanted last summer when I was 48, and when my mother found out about it, she freaked out and actually asked me whether she needed to move down here (I’m in Arizona; she’s in northern Utah.) It took no small bit of talking to convince her that I was fine, and that the pacemaker was no big deal (it really isn’t, medically speaking. I later figured out that the reason she freaked out was that she somehow had gotten it into her head that I’d had a heart attack.)

But that’s just the way that mothers are; they worry about their children from the time they find out they’re pregnant with them!

Did Cathy go down the street to stay with her mother for yet another entire week, this time for cliche nitpicking, or is she there to keep her from wringing the MIL’s neck at her house?

Next critique topic, Cathy’s weight. That’ll really make for a happy week.

My Mom is departed but I always knew she was on my side. And that meant the world to me.
