These prisoners with the death penalty have lost their humanity, and are a waste of human skin.And this comes from a liberal up to the mid-20’s to 30ish.
What is the point of the death penalty? Is it to prevent capital crimes? If so, it has been proven over and over to be a colossal failure. Historically, the death penalty actually has the opposite effect. Is it to be efficient? That’s a failure, too. It costs more to kill a prisoner than to keep them locked up for life. Is it to wreak vengeance? If so, then we are hardly different than the murders themselves, especially since they often do it in a fit of rage or passion whereas we have a long time to consider our actions. Vengeance is a terrible reason to do anything at all, let alone take a life that – as was stated so well earlier – may be proven to be innocent. So – what’s your reason for wanting to kill someone?

i guess it is time to say goodbye – if the point is to lose readership – you succeeded – if it was to start intelligent discussion – you failed miserably – if it was to get a laugh – again you double failed miserablyto try to make the answer to a complicated question a cliche comment is the height of smugness and closed mindedness – just my humble opinion – which of course i am probably not entitled to by many of those who will read this ‘cartoon’ since my opinion is unable to be expressed in a 20 second ‘sound byte’ or a cliche statement.-i take sanctity of ‘life’ very seriously and am truly sick of those who use the argument that if i try to speak and act for the saving of a life of one who can not speak and act for themselves, and i agree that one who can speak, act, and choose what they will do no matter what the consequences (whether that consequence works or not to deter them) should be held accountable for their actions of preconceived murder, that i am somehow inconsistent???and please tell me how one who holds the opposite view of myself can plead for the life of one who willfully knowingly killed another human being in cold blood, and especially without remorse, but think nothing of destroying ‘life’ in a woman’s womb in cold blood because they can label that ‘life’ in their mind something other than ‘life’. or use the poor excuse of the rights of a woman over her body and thus has the right to kill the life inside her that she help create as if that life is a useless throw away even if it has no voice to speak. and we won’t even go into the billion dollar business that killing babies has become and of course – that money does not steer the course of laws passed and palms greased. (last part of sentence is sarcastic for you that need clarification)-you can’t get your ‘head’ around my thoughts?-trust me – i can’t get my ‘head’ around your thoughts -AND i think your argument is as illogical as you ‘assume’ mine is.-the bottom line is if you say there is ‘no absolute’ truth unless it agrees with your finite thinking, than you and i will never come to an understanding of each others thinking, because i believe there is absolute truth that is not based on ‘human’ intelligence. i also believe that you have the right to agree or disagree with me – but you do not have the right to claim you are MORE intelligent, or a better human, because you base what you do and say on your own logic which reaches conclusions no more relevant to me than mine is to yours in this case.-oh and just for the record since this is as long as it is anyway – i don’t consider myself any more or less intelligent or scientific than those who disagree with me on this subject. but i do think they are wrong in their assumptions, starting points, and theories based on those wrong assumptions, and starting points. and so i always welcome ‘discussion’ that is not name calling or belittling or abusive for the sake of finding truth, not quoting what someone with an agenda, be it hidden or open, said or some study that was coerced or unable to be duplicated but was toted by public opinion (note public opinion) as the group think of the month – but a simple dialogue of why you believe what you do and why i believe what i do.

Further, since some commentators have chosen to quote the Bible, the death penalty is prescribed by God (and if you don’t believe in God, then don’t use the Bible in your arguments). If you are claiming that you have a higher morality than God, feel free to proclaim yourself a Deity. Jesus spoke of and to individuals, not governments. Paul, however, did speak about governments:
“For rulers are not a cause of fear for good behavior, but for evil. Do you want to have no fear of authority? Do what is good and you will have praise from the same; for it is a minister of God to you for good. But if you do what is evil, be afraid; for it does not bear the sword for nothing; for it is a minister of God, an avenger who brings wrath on the one who practices evil.”

hmm… couple of points‘murder’ is a legal term for the UNLAWFUL taking of a human life. By definition the death penalty is not murder … neither is abortion.
The death penalty is 100% effective against recidivism.
Lethal injections are not a deterrent to anything; playing with dangerous drugs is a national pastime, you can’t scare someone with something they volunteer to do everyday.
John & Scott thank you for today’s strip. It brought out how little interest some have for the truth. They make sweeping statements but offer no proof of how many innocents have been put to death.<><me
