Corey Ford was a writer of humorous books in the 30’s and later. I assume Skippy means he hopes his wisecracks will feed him “pay his board” as in room and board. Maybe Corey Ford was a pal of the cartoonist.
Corey Ford wrote “Three rousing cheers for the Rollo boys” back in 1925. I used to really enjoy his articles in “The Lower Forty Hunting, Shooting and Inside Straight Club” in Field and Stream magazine in much later years. First thing I’d read when the new issue came.
