Don’t worry, I failed playing in the sand.

I actually heard of kids failing kindergarten and knew a kid when I was in 6th grade who claimed he did fail kindergarten. All I could think was how could anyone fail kindergarten since it’s like the easiest grade there is. But the kid said he failed because he wasn’t up to the social requirements to move on.

On my daughter’s first day of first grade, after I dropped her off, I saw one of her Kindergarten classmates walking towards the school, alone. She saw me and headed right towards me (I was a classroom volunteer so she knew me well). She had no idea where to go, who her teacher was, or anything; her mother just dropped her off at the end of the street. I got her situated. It turned out that she was held back and was repeating Kindergarten.

I almost failed, “tying my shoes”.

All I really need to know, I learned in Kindergarten
