Transcript:
Flo: What wag they thinkin' at Stahbucks? Ned: Ah, yes...the "race together" fiasco. Engaging strangers in a dialogue on race never ends well. Eddie: A-yeh...too many race fans just can't accept Danica Patrick. Flo: I have no idea what yaw'r talkin' about, Eddie. Ned: Which, in a weird way, proves my point. Eddie: Glad T' help.

More folks should consider her career, as the subject

Classic comedy that still works. Listened to “Our Miss Brooks” show where they conversed about flower pots. It had me laughing out loud. To give a hint she wanted her boss to start helping her get a half dozen “little ones” by six that night.

Leave it to Eddie to confuse race with racing. While Danica Patrick is not the best race car driver out there, she’s been a pretty good one, in spite of snarky comments by insecure male race car drivers. (Unfair advantage because she weighs less? HA!) And she has done a fabulous job of breaking into racing for women.

I entirely agree – conversations about race – of whatever type – never end well …

The conversations at La Cucaracha are interesting. And the commenters are polite and civil with each other.

Yeah, what was so concerning about that driver? And what is ‘race’ anyway? Thought that there was no such a thing anyway; except, of course, for those in need of wagering their money away on far out statistics. Oh for the blind, unwanted anxiety.

And so the complainers start in on Danica, totally ignoring the joke once again.

I may be totally off-base here. but it is my understanding that the human race began as a dark-skinned species, supposedly in the area where Africa is now. Some of them wandered Northward and their skin turned lighter, due to a difference of exposure to the sun. Some stayed put, so their skin color did not change.. and now some people say that the color of your skin determines how superior or inferior someone is. Hogwash !

There was a woman in sports car racing, I think it was Donna May Mims, who raced a pink car very, very well.

Let’s not forget Shirley Muldowney, drag racing queen for years.

I like the way Eddie thinks.

As to a comment on today’s strip here – I think Wiley has nailed it extremely well. Even on things where we’re talking about the same thing – our frame of reference is different – and our interpretation of what’s being said can be out of context from what was meant – and certainly uninformed about the experience that person had, to have made the comment they did. This does not excuse racism, but it’s certainly why such a problem has been so intractable.
Finally (more personal opinion) – I think that many “race” issues are actually cultural issues, and those who step outside their culture and embrace a different culture are accused of betraying their race.

Men in drag transcends race…and gender…and most things.

auto racing should be abolished. It’s a complete waste of fuel

I’m with Eddie. Our city has a big 10K race in a couple of weeks and a couple of weeks later – international marathon. point of reference and background of the person make a big difference. Not all of us are up on the news.
