Katy: Curses! Dad! Adam: Hmmwhat?? Katy: The TV isn't working. Can you fix it? It's Sunday morning! I need my cartoons! Adam: Did you push the cable button before the power button? Katy: You think I don't know how to work the remote? I'm six, dad. That's kind of insulting. Adam: I'm sorry, honey...I was stalling. I was...um...I was... Katy: Fine. You sleep. I'll just search the web unsupervised until I find something. Adam: You should think about a career as a negotiator. Katy: Can I negotiate you into making peanut butter pancakes, too?

Go read a book, kid.

Good advice, Dani. Since we didn’t have TV when I was growing up, I must have developed my love of reading somewhere. I’d rather read than watch TV any day.

My heart goes to your family. I don’t know how old your step daughter is, but are you and your wife looking into every available resource for respite care? Or for her care when you are unable to care for her, or even gone? Helping an “adult” special needs child make a transition to somewhere other than the home and family that has always been known is almost always traumatic, as I understand it. BUT, so much better than leaving it until the child is alone (ie, you die). I do not have the experience, yet. But I am researching and learning and crying myself. Please forgive me if I am out of line.
Also, special kudos for seeing your wife as the beautiful woman she is, and not letting your sight freeze at the special needs daughter you must always share her with (and now, share with her). She sounds like a lucky once single mom!!:-)

I don’t think I’d like peanut butter pancakes.
Well… maybe if you make them with extra chunky!
