I have several friends that reuse the cups. They use the coffee grounds on their roses and use the cups as seed starters. There is also a company that makes them without the little plastic cup part (it look a little more like a pod) to eliminate the waste.
I love our Keurig, and as Miba notes, the cups will soon be fully recyclable! I have the optional attachment that allows you to use your favorite ground coffee instead of a K-Cup. After brewing, you just clean the filter and it’s ready for another brew. It’s a bit more work, and quite a bit cheaper in the long run..I still love the thing, and from time to time, use the actual K-Cups…
I’ll never understand the big ‘personal coffee’ fad but for the caffeine. Give me a fine pot of jo on my kitchen counter any day. I’ll keep the change, pay my bills, and likely will have enough left over to get something nice for myself or someone else.. -No designer pretense necessary.
Keurig coffee makers are made to sell those pricey K cups the way printers are made to sell ink cartridges. True, you can fill the reusable cups with ground coffee; however, they never give as good a cup of coffee even when they work.

Um… wouldn’t K cups fall under paper or plastic?

Allegedly, the nasty little things are not recyclable and are contributing to landfills nationwide. This might be an editorial cartoon.

Actually they are starting to make them recyclable. I read an article about it about a week ago.

How about that! Ziggy bought the car with the built in coffee maker and now he is cleaning it out. Way to go!

San Francisco Bay makes the non-plastic pods for Keurig. Good quality coffee too! The pods are 97% bio-degradable.
