Norman’s standards are fierce but, of course, fair. Just ask him.

Here’s the human version (not a reprint):

From IMDb: “Roy spends most of this movie rescuing Dale from terrible fates.”

I can’t imagine that with our purplie-shaded leading bi… err lady.

You are right, Edna. Just look at how his shirt is creased. The cardboard inserts in his pants are still flat at the end of the day. And he has a perfectly groomed Ballard mohawk.

Yay! A brand new poster from StelBel. Dale Arfans, who looks a lot like Cleo, is being overshadowed by a horse! Of course Dale never got to do much in those movies, except yell for Help!

Gabby Howls was a favorite of mine when I was a pup. And I love the little band of howlers and pickers at the bottom,

    Oh wow!

    It’s a beeoootiful poster, Stel!

    As Dennis says… it’s brand new, today…

right here in the May 12th  2020 “CLEO and COMPANY”

    on Sherpa…

    http://www.comicssherpa.com/site/feature?uc_comic=cscwy

    I loved Roy Dog-Ears when I was a little pup…. er…. I mean…. girl!

I even loved his howling during the cow-pup action…

    which is saying a lot…

At that age, I usually considered it an unwelcome intrusion in the plot,

when actors or cartoon characters suddenly burst into howls.

(John Prine described it in a song intro as being like a clock radio going off in the middle of a movie….)

But Roy Dog-Ears was different…. he was meant to be a singing cow-pup…

handsome, kind, more of a benevolent personality than an action hero….

we had his children’s recordings at home.

    And Trigger. My beloved Trigger.

Some kids thought heroes’ horses were supposed to be white…

but I thought Trigger was the epitome of horsey beauty.

And we all loved Gabby Howls…. that voice, that hat.

No wonder Roy’s own mate, Dale Arfans, got FOURTH billing.

Never mind… I still wanted to BE her.

while forever in Roy’s shadow…. she was right there with the pup-pokes… her fur immaculately groomed,

    riding her own precious Buttermilk

and the mellow sound of the Pups of the Pioneers…

A trivia bit for Montana Lady…

They were “The Pioneers,” when they started…

till a record company exec said they were too young to be Pioneers, and added “Sons of”.

GOOOOOOOOOOD MORNING BALLARDEERS! Q-D #960,425 HEE HEEEEEEEEE!

Love Roy Dogears. Oh yeah …. Trigger gets a billing on the poster, but Buttercup? Nooooooo. Guess that Hollywood bias against females was alive and well for this movie.

Gonna be sunny and 60’s today. Perfect for mowing the lawn. I’m gonna watch my kid do it.

I’m thinking Norman inherited his fierceness from his maternal great grandfather…

who was obviously a bald eagle.

Roy and Dale and the Pups of the Pioneers! What a line up! I watched those movies all the time growing up. I was so enamored with Roy that I told everyone that when I was all ‘growed up’ I was going to marry Roy!

And then, when I finally grew up, and MMM and I settled in Chatsworth, we could drive all over the place and see where they filmed a lot of the shows. They still have a Trigger Court, but there are condos all over the place.

Thanks, Stel!!!! This was beautiful. I now have the Pups of the Pioneers singing about Cool, Clear Water, and Roy singing about his Four Legged Friend, and Dale with Roy and Happy Trails in the earworm department. :))

Is Norman wearing an earring? In many of JvA’s comics, it looks as if the men could be wearing them, but it could also just be their lower earlobes. But this one really looks like an earring.

Kudos again, StelBel!!! (extra ! for The Pups of the Pioneers pictured at the lower left, what I liked the best). If you can’t quite make out the names in the human poster Tigressy posted, the full cast is listed by
