Dad: Did you know that people with four-year degrees earn twice as much as people with high school degrees? Baldo: Well... Dad: You can travel... Dad: Buy a beautiful house... Dad: And get your dream car! Baldo: Uh... Baldo: yeah...
Exceptions don’t make “the rule” incorrect. Most college grads make significantly more money than non-college grads. College is indeed over-emphasized in our culture as if it is the only way but it’s how many get better paying jobs.
Ok, so Papi, how much is it going to cost? I bet Baldo won’t get a scholarship. One course at VCU is close to $1250 (with the book and parking)! I have to take a break from financing my own education. (as Iago likes to say: make money, put money in thy hat!)
Gweedo, if the best job a (particular) college grad can get is flipping burgers, imagine what he’d be doing without one… (Here in San Francisco, most of the fast-food workers seem to be Filipino immigrants; the Humanities majors are making espresso drinks.)
Of course, making more money is only one of the reasons someone might go to college. Some people just want to learn interesting things, and college is the place to do that…
College costs are crazy! My daughter was accepted and had scholarship offers to 4 big name schools, and 5 other smaller private colleges. She sat down and made up a cost chart (she’s a math major w/ edu. minor) to compare them. She chose to pass on those (all were 60000 - 100000 after scholarships & grants) and instead is going to a state college the next town over as a commuting student at about 7500 a year.

Why can I believe Rush never went to collage? He makes a lot of money. Honey, where are the old sheets and scissors?

We all have our own motivations. If the car motivates him, yippee!

Get that 4 year degree and go deep into debt. Bachelors watch their bank accounts grow. Parents watch their college tuition and fees grow.

Come on, Lewreader…don’t go down to that level. I don’t think you’re one of those guys.

BAldo, keep focusing and studying harder!
We can go back to universities or community colleges and get the degrees with sufficent money.
