Transcript:
Baldo: This is fun, Dad! We should study together more often! Baldo: So, what's the answer to question 8? Dad: Shouldn't you do some of these? Baldo: What? And take the fun out of it?
I’ miss “New Math” by taking algebra a year early in Jr High (does “Jr High” date me?). If a kid asks me about set theory, I’ll ask him if he rather derive the area under an arc.
Baldo, you need to find the right answers for those questions that you work on. Papi will not give you the answers but he only HELPS you to study your homework. Yes, take the fun out of it!
Joe, Baldo has made it clear that he has no interest in going fishing, talking or no talking.
And nobody’s post indicates that they don’t understand that Papi has done all of the work so far. That’s the whole crux of the joke. It’s pretty self-evident, and doesn’t need to be pointed out.
If we’re going to be pedantically literal-minded about everything, why don’t we all just acknowledge that it makes no difference whatsoever what grade Baldo gets on his Algebra exam? He’s been in High School the entire ten years this strip has been running. Barring any “Funky Winkerbean” shenannigans by Carlos and Hector, he’ll be in High School ten years from now. He’s unlikely to graduate and go on to college, whether he learns Algebra or not.

At least they’re spending time together. Sure beats fishing.

Joe, take a cue from Papi. We can do our own problem solving, and we don’t need you helping us figure out the jokes.
