Besides, Ralph, Bob, Wally, and Oogie will perform all the stupid pet tricks you want.

Wait — you mean to tell me Jack Parr and Steve Allen are off the air?

I’m so old, I remember (and still miss) Steve Allen. For those of you who are too young to remember, he hosted the Tonight Show before Johnny Carson and after Jack Parr, who I also remember LOL.

I got old enough for late night TV near the end of the Carson era and faithfully watched Leno, but from archival footage have come to appreciate the legacy of every host since the beginning, as each evolved the role of ambassador to the world of the famous. Fallon has made great use of his talents to go toe to toe with the stars he interviews, and I can hardly wait to see what Colbert has in the works.

Corden, like fungus, is kind of growing on me. But if I’m dead tired, I won’t make an effort to DVR him, much less stay up and watch him. I don’t watch Fallon at all; he does not amuse me. And his arrogance in forcing NBC to move the Tonight Show back to NYC and calling himself the star (“The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon”) when he doesn’t even hold a candle to Leno, who didn’t dare compare himself to Carson, is also an Alaska-sized turnoff. Not sure what I’m going to make of Colbert if anything. Don’t watch Kimmel except on exceedingly rare occasion. And Conan was never funny, either. The only time I DVR Meyers is if I trip over his listing in the guide and find he has someone interesting on (I DVR’ed the Count [aka Count von Count] when he was on Meyers, as Meyers had been with the Count on Sesame Street earlier that day). And while the Letterman death watch continues (even Martin Short did a bit that ended with a huge lighted display behind him that read “REST IN PEACE, DAVE”), the only real reason to watch Dave was to see if the top ten list was funny. He’s been phoning it in for the last ten years anyway.
