Mom: What is that? Heart: We ran out of frosted frost o's, so I crushed up some fig newtons and added milk. Mom: I guess I should applaud your creativity. Heart: It's not so bad once you dump on some sugar.
I would have just eaten the fig newtons and had a glass of milk. We always argued for oatmeal cookies and a glass of milk instead of a bowl of oatmeal with sugar on it.
When I was younger my mom tried every once in awhile to steer us to the healthier cereals. But every time we added so much sugar to them to make them edible that she switched back to pre-sweetened cereal just to cut our sugar intake before school. Nearly 50 now and still eats me Lucky charms, fruity pebbles, Fruit loops and cinnamon toast crunch.
I remember when a friend served Fig Newtons that he’d warmed in the oven. Amazing how many of the guests commented how much better his “homemade” were than the store-bought kind.
Depending on how many are in the bowl, she’s a good chance she’s going to regret it later. They can be a pretty potent purgative if eaten in large quantities.
