Doctor: It's really a very simple procedure, Joanie. Once we give you the local anesthetic, it'll be over in a few minutes. The needle may look a little frightening, but there's not that much pain. The important thing is to try to relax, okay? Okay? Joanie? Joanie: Where do you keep it? Does it have its own room? Doctor: Yes. We wheel it out after you've been blindfolded.

When I was young, my dentist used to keep the hypodermic needle hidden, and told me it was a little pincher. One day, I turned around and saw it, and almost fainted. It looked to me like it was a foot long.

“But in both cases the people poking you are superbly talented.”~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~I beg to differ. ‘round the corner is a ’vampire store’ that I get blood drawn for my labs. There’s a little Cuban girl that could get blood from a mosquito and never leave a mark. She’s been put on a ‘float’ assignment and so I had to make do with two girls that couldn’t get blood out of a run-over deer. As a consequence, after 2 weeks, my arm is STILL black and blue from bicep to wrist.. NEXT cycle, I’ll call ahead to see where she is !!

This is ALMOST when I resumed reading Doonesbury, so some of these past strips have filled in some blanks ( the whole Rick/Joanie thing I missed ). Unfortunately in the military I simply didn’t have time even to read the newspaper except perhaps the larger stories in the Sunday papers on days they didn’t have us doing anything else.
