So that’s why they made it 555 feet tall? It’s the Fifth Element!

She and Captain Eddie have much in common….and both of them will end up with their tongues hanging up in you-know-where (a thing my parents told me and my friends about lying).

Looks like Wiley took the two small ports at the top of the monument and turned them into an equal sign. More political commentary? Can’t we just stick to comedy please?

I saw a guy interviewing people on the street and their explanations weren’t much different than this. One guy actually knew.

Well, that is as good an explanation as any. Still, don’t tell George Washington they messed with his monument.

So while ‘they’ were refurbishing it after the 2011 quake, they also updated the armaments located under the cap. Smart thinking.

Will someone kindly explain what possible political comment can be taken from the tilted rectangular windows looking like an equal sign? I’m utterly baffled. And please note that this is a vacation reprint, originally published 4 years ago.

    Thanks.

Oh, I know that. I’m just really curious just what they see. I simply don’t understand what they’re getting at.

I took the “equal sign” to represent the concept that “All men are created equal,” and America’s fight for independence. That’s all the more politics I read into this.

NightShade09: One is predominantly anti-science while a whole bunch are predominantly pro-science (but only one of those may be mentioned in the corporate media)..Isla Guapa: Nothing that I can see, but you are welcome to come down here and help me find many that agree with us.

NightShade09: Boy, are we excommunicating here! Where did you get that I wanted anti-science coverage? That’s all we do get around here from the governor on down. When I ran for state board of education in 2010, my name only appeared on the League of Women Voters candidate survey and the ballot itself. I contacted all the papers in that district. If they are so independent, how come none gave any coverage at all – even anti?.In areas of greater interest in education, they would have looked at my platform and said, “Of course, so?” Here it was essentially censored as “patently stupid” as you so elegantly put it. The idea of teaching how to think instead of what to think. Teach the course, not the test. Lifetime sports for all instead of bottom-rung professional athletics for the few. Evaluate teachers in poor schools on how students improve, not on how they compare to rich schools. And a few other planks like that on classroom size, budget, libraries, and other “patently stupid” goals..And yes, I also have journalism experience and have been fired for not following the party line in my reporting. The only free press we have in this country is lost in the overpowering nonsense of the web – but it is indeed there if you take the trouble to find it and do enough research on your own to recognize it when you see it.
