After smoking for 25 years (3 packs a day) I quit because cigarettes went up to Ā¢50 per pack. Wish someone would pay me for my 25 year study. I guess capitalism is itā€™s own reward.

Iā€™ve heard anecdotal evidence that getting shot in the head can shorten your life too. I wonder how many millions of tax dollars itā€™ll take to study that for a couple of decades to prove it!

From an old, old ā€œFrank and Ernestā€ strip:

ā€œA recently-completed $5 million government study shows that you can make pretty good money from a $5 million government study!ā€

(Iā€™m paraphrasing a bit ā€“ itā€™s got to be almost 40 years now.)

I read an article like that not long ago. A study showing that kids are obese through a lack of exercise and eating between meals too much. Arenā€™t you thrilled with what our tax money goes to?

Actually, Eddie does only two of the four: smoking and drinking. Iā€™d like to see you wrestle lahbstah traps out of the water regularly, and while we donā€™t see him eat much, his diet (as a generic fisherman) is probably high in fish which is ā€œreportedā€ to be good for heart health. And BTW, I take second to none in my disdain for the Nutrition Nazis.

What I find surprising is that if you do all of those bad things it only shortens your life by an average of 12 years. Granted thatā€™s a lot of time, but if the life-expectancy in the UK is something like 75 years old youā€™d still live to be 63ā€¦.Then again, at my age itā€™s easy to say Iā€™d rather life fast and die young. Iā€™m sure when Iā€™m 62 I really wonā€™t feel like dying yetā€¦

And if it ainā€™t researched, it ainā€™t true! But in this country, why bother ā€“ they canā€™t afford to teach science in schools and nobody believes any of the findings anyway.

Hey Wyatt ā€“ Iā€™m 62 and looking forward to many more years of dancing ā€“ which I will do til I drop.

Iā€™m 72 and still enjoying pizza and chocolate and gin too- but it ia all about moderation. I do an hour of mostly free weights (5-15#) every other day and I hope to continue to keep myself on track. Iā€™m always looking for activities for the alternate days ;-) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~and yes, the ā€œstudiesā€ we hear on the news are usually just as lame as that one, while they still want more taxes :-(

Right up there with the $2 million study a couple of years ago that came to the conclusion there was a link between drugs and crime.
