I get that the fake door set up by the bears is supposed to look like an outhouse.

But just like a bear, uh, “poohs” au natural in the woods, why would anyone think a drunken hunter would bother with an outhouse?

They will use an outhouse for #2 as they’re afraid a bear will come upon them as they do it in the woods and be vulnerable.. Oh, the irony of this one, Wiley.

They could try a saloon facade, with a sign that says “Free Bear”

Civilization is nothing more than an order imposed by living creatures. The bears are only adapting to take advantage of the nature of their prey.Civilization and culture are not separate from nature. They are an integral part of nature. This is probably why you don’t see many anthropologists getting into political movements except to preserve a sample.

Wood shop teacher was in charge of building a prize for some teacher event. He built an outhouse complete with a catalog for toilet paper.

I used to work with a guy who’d go bear hunting during the season. The rest of us in the office would wear “Bears” shirts the day before and would would break into “Go Bears” chants during the day.

BUT… if it is supposed to be an outhouse for the hunter, then it is backwards! The hunter only sees the back of the door, which probably just looks like a piece of wood standing upright in the woods! Maybe the hunter built the fake outhouse for the bears to “use” instead of just change the saying, “Do bears S*** in the woods?” and when the bears enter to use the outhouse, the hunter will have a clear shot!NAW! Maybe Wiley was drunk when he drew it!!

Been to dozens of hunting camps. Never met a single hunter who drank in the woods.Later in camp is a whole different story.

Actually, the decoy is placed and shaped properly to attract the hunter. Note that the fake vent pipe is closer to the bears. All outhouses I have ever seen have a roof sloped towards the bench (the rear of the outhouse) and the vent to release the gases from the catch pit under the bench.A lot of portapotties are designed in the same way.

He’s hunting bear and using a fake outhouse door to lure them. As if bears would use an outhouse in the first place. He’s a lazy hunter so he’s just waiting around for them with a beer in hand to pass the time.

TMI alert for the delicate (probably most commenters have read GoComic by now, anyhow.): We stayed at Granny’s NC farmhouse on our way to Florida in 1944. I don’t remember anything like whiteheron’s “vent to release the gases from the catch pit under the bench.” There was a hole (to sit over) in the bench, shaped like a guitar pick but with a more blunt small end, and in my estimation plenty of “the gases from the catch pit” were released through this hole, without benefit of a pipe. The trusty Sears Roebuck catalog was there, and you had to learn to knead the pages and roll them between your palms so that they’d soften up and the points wouldn’t get you. There was a little pile of the proverbial corn cobs, too, but they were dried and I never understood why anyone would want to use something so rough. As a bonus, there was a little hole under the front of the “backhouse” (as we termed it), and if I’d call, a fat toad would hop out of it and look at me.

BTW:if the vent pipe is smaller diameter than the hole inder the seat, it won’t draw the fumes out.

Also, over the years of checking hunters out, have seen tons of ’em drinking out in the woods, on or in their vehicles, and shooting up about everything BUT the animals they have tags for. Bear baiting stations are also a real mess left in the woods by “hunters”.

AS for outhouses, nothing as “interesting” as finding a very upset cougar in one! So it IS important to may sure the door opens OUTWARD, and not into the abode of the commode!

The fact that the braces supporting the outhouse front are on the side where the bears are waiting shows that the bears built it to attract the hunter.

I don’t think there is such a thing, really, as a ‘clean’ outhouse. The ‘squatty-vous’ opening might be clean, but the space beneath it never was. Thus, the overwhelming aromas…

A person who drinks beer on the hunt deserves his empty game bag, if it doesn’t; bag a fellow human by accident. Sometimes I wonder if Cheney had one too many or the dude he shot had really ticked him off earlier that day.
