I once used a 3’ long pipe wrench to open a 40 year old jar of plum preserves. Long story short, the ring top of the jar separated from the rest of the jar, I sliced both thumbs up pretty bad, emergency room trip courtesy of a neighbor, and about 2 to 3 weeks of being unable to use my thumbs while the wounds healed. Have you ever tried to button a shirt without using your thumbs? Anyway, having had my experience, I’m with Berle.
Ouch! This is why I don’t mess with old mason jars. Karl Pilkington famously tried to wash dishes without using his thumbs on the old Ricky Gervais podcast, which is why Karl is one of my favorite people.
