Let’s also consider: Harry Shearer is 72. He’s been doing the show for over two decades, and he’s been paid increasing amounts over the years. Maybe he feels he has enough money for a man his age. At 72, what is the point of 7 MILLION dollars unless you’re broke? By now he can afford to walk away. Maybe he’s not greedy. Why pile up money you’ll never need when other people have close to none- and have harder jobs?
It is a lot of money … but everything is relative. If one is “comfortable” (and that means something different to each person) one can walk away from any amount of money if one wants to do something else. For $7M I’d do just about anything legal and then retire “comfortably.”
Harry Shearer does phone it in from England. So he is literally walking away from 7 million dollars for a job he phones in twice a week. But the thing is if he said, “I’ve done this enough…” that would be fine. But he insists he needs time do other projects… which clearly he should have.
I would never question that point. I know some voice actors. (Not famous ones, but busy ones.) I know what they do. Done a little bit myself for local commercials and children’s CD’s. I can do lots of voices myself, and have been acting in local theater for over 40 years, playing a wide variety of characters. So yeah, I’ve tried it and I know.-———————My point all along has been that Shearer does not simply ‘phone it in’ in the sense that it’s a simple job anyone could do. It’s not and most people couldn’t.

I always thought Rita sounded either like Lucy Van Pelt or Cloris Leachman as Phyllis.

There must be funny voices in his head and refuses to let them out for less than ten.

I still find it amazing he walked away from 7 million a year he could literally phone in.

Hey, if sound engineers can make Britney Spears sound like an actual singer than they can make me sound like Montgomery Burns…

You will be missed, Mr. Shearer.
