Adam: I think my back is getting better. Laura: Well, you're up! That's a start. Adam: Boy, these meds you gave me packed a punch. Laura: I have to be honest. It was a couple Advil and a tic tac. Adam: Huh...I thought I seemed fresh and kissable. Laura: Yep. My minty little placebo junkie.

Know the feeling but I’m lucky in that it is not constant pain. If I lift my arms a certain way or twist my body then I get painful twinges. Some days I take an aleve but not daily.

You, my friend, are a doctor’s worst nightmare. Your body reacts to pain by tensing up, which makes the pain worse, and around we go. Most of my male patients (and it’s almost always men) complain the pain meds make them groggy. “Yes. That’s so your body can mend itself and your wife can get some peace.”

I broke my arm last May, I took the pain pills in the beginning but even though it still hurts I don’t take anything anymore.

Does anyone believe in the placebo effect? I don’t. If it’s real pain, and not real drugs, there’s no effect happening. I know, I know, it’s been proven by the scientific method and all, but there’s no way that would work in real life.

I went to my doctor once complaining of pain when I raised my arms over my head and twisted them. He looked at me and asked, “Why are you doing that?”
I answered, “I don’t know; I just noticed when I raise my arms and twist them this way, I get a pain in my shoulders.”
He took some notes, and checked me over, then he sat down and looked at me again saying, “Well, don’t do that!”
