I assume the bug is waving to the left because he’s waving to us readers, and not to the panel border on his other side. Then again, he may be waving to Moby Dick; I don’t know on which end his head is located.

The head is on the left. Had they placed the whale in the opposite direction, one whale fart would have sent the bug to Timbuktu…
