I don’t think it hurts. Just sort of a wistful remembrance of something I’ve outgrown and can’t ever fit back into. In many instances, I would have to be insane to want to fit back into it.
This is why nobody remembers their past lives, of course.Best to put on a fresh face and start new than to try to resurrect the past.Oddly enough, it is also why coffee is so popular.
"Up at Cody’s camp I spent my days, oh,With flat car riders and cross-tie walkers.Old Cody, Junior took me over,Said, you’re gonna find the world is smouldrin’An’ if you get lost come on home to Green River."-Green River : Creedence Clearwater Revival. The past, like the future, is an undiscovered country.
"All I see turns to brown, as the sun burns the ground And my eyes fill with sand, as I scan this wasted land Trying to find, trying to find where I’ve been."-Kashmir : Led ZeppelinKashmir is actually a quite fertile and well-irrigated region in the world of the present moment. But so was the Sahara, until the cooling seas breathed out hot dry breath that burned up the land and made it sterile sands without the ambient moisture to maintain the trees and grasses. The cool seas continue to burn and dry the land to this very day, also causing great storms as the little vapor produced falls back almost immediately to its source, unable to survive the cold.
Great song.I can hear it playing somewhere off in memory. This is the traveler’s burden, memories of places that do not exist, where everything was better.

Turtles live too long, some might reply. As for me, I just relish what might have been, had not what was intruded….

Some sorrows never leave. They just become old friends over time, and their presence becomes our new reality.

Sometimes, though, it doesn’t hurt anymore. I disagree.
