Ok, not compound, but certainly satisfying…

On yesterday’s forum, everybody was saying that Satchel’s trainer was a different dog…

But I think Satchel’s trainer just had a different colorist….one who didn’t get the memo about him being a border collie (though, truth to tell, most border collies are black and white, anyway.)

So I took one of the frames from yesterday and did a quick job of coloring him more or less the way he looked last week….I didn’t have the fancy gradients Darby used to shade the brown, so I kinda faked it…

But I think you can see that he is indeed meant to be the same pooch…. looking different, too, cos of his hat and whistle… but mostly cos yesterday he’d been filled in solid brown.

The mistake actually happened when this arc ran back in 2007.There were more days in between…. so either the colorist forgot…. or a new one was hired.

BTW… don’t blame him too much…. colorists get about 10 low-paid minutes per strip, and rarely any instructions.Sometimes they just down have time to read back a couple of weeks before starting.

And before you ask…yes… too much time on my hands, probably…but mostly insomnia…..

We wouldn’t have these problems if we got the daily comics in black and white like they should be. Outsourced colorizing? Feh, I say feh.
