I love it. When I was a kid about eight years old I would leave my bedroom door ajar just enough that I couldplace a few children’s books at the top knowing that dad would come into my bedroom before going to workin the morning. When he opened the door the books would fall down on his head.
I guess my powers of perception are waning, but I really thought that was a noose. I was puzzling, because I couldn’t remember Watterson ever going that dark. Glad it’s just the standard water balloon!

better question is how heavy is dad … that branch won’t support his weight

Good planning dictates that you ask Dad first.

He needs to know math for this to work. I’d say Dad is safe.

Does he want to know so Dad bumps into it, or so he doesn’t??

Any Question from Calvin should be viewed as a Loaded Question!

Awwww, isn’t this sweet? Calvin wants to make sure Dad doesn’t bump into the balloon when he walks under the tree! Such a caring son.
What? You were thinking something different?

Makes no difference what units are used. Had I done that to my Dad I would be dead anyway.

The dad will notice Calvin in the tree before he gets close enough for the balloon to hit him. The snickering will alert him.

@LeadingEdge: Instead of Newtons, how about doing the calculation in Einsteins? That would make it easier – relatively speaking.

Then again, perhaps Newton was more familiar with the physics of objects falling from trees….
