Speaking of things going as planned…

For those of you who Sprechen Sie Deutsch, “Widow” is running concurrently in German here: http://wvh.barksbase.de/de/topics/lastkiss/

    (Thanks for the lead-in, marg!)

Yes, Gweedo. Now I can say it. You nailed. But what happens next?

Ulp. I don’t know if I mentioned it, but I’m taking a break in the story for a Sunday color comic. Then we’re back to “Widow” on Monday.

I like the non-stories little bit better.

Suddenly female televangelist R.E. Vival who’s touring the hospital on the Hinn-denburg Grant rushes to the rescue, laying hands on vital organs and bringing him straight up from the dead. In shock, Ms. Muffet suddenly dies from a heartless attack and the old widower, citing the Ancient Overconfident Millionaire “if she dies, she dies” rule, quickly marries Ms. Vival, dying in heavenly glory while singing songs from her hymen-al and leaving her her own TV station.

    Too much non-story, Colt?

This arc sort of carries an genuine air of “Classic EC Horror Comics Story” with it. If I followed my initial thought, the Bride will become attracted to some handsome hunk, they’ll plan to marry … imbibe some champagne at the reception … and that’s when the Bride would find out she was POISONED! Her new groom (and now holder of the fortune) sneaks off with his true love. Heh heh heh!

RIP Dick Giordano (1932-2010). Such an inspiring comic book artist…

Colt9033, thanks for the feedback. This experiment goes on for a couple more weeks and then we’ll be back to normal–whatever that is!

Maybe she’ll find out now that he is really broke. And in debt up to his ears.

To anybody who just can’t wait for the stunning (stoned?) ending: just open a PayPal account, and maybe we can negotiate a sneak peek at the last page of this epic.

[Sorry, John, but this might be the only way to recoup the cost of buying your comic books…]

@cdward: Thanks for the encouragement, it’s always nice to hear from a reader! In fact, we have a lot of fun bringing John’s stuff to a second life in German. Quite a challenging task sometimes, since the all-American wordplays he likes to use don’t always translate smoothly.

@jml58: LOL, nice one! I should warn you, though, that it is not considered politically correct anymore to call a woman “Fräulein” in Germany (with the exception of some old spinsters perhaps, but don’t rely on it). Better be sure to wear a high-heel-proofed jockstrap when you try it next time. ;)

@John: “Sie sind willkommen” is grammatically correct, but no German would use it in this context. It is something you would say when an unexpected, but not unwanted visitor turns up at your doorstep. Better use a phrase like “Gern geschehen!” or “Keine Ursache!”
