A-yup. I graduated from a high school with 30% Hispanic and 30% German American (second or third generation) and 30% other attendance. At graduation, it wasn’t too hard to tell which side of the stadium was the Hispanic families (the happy, cheering side) and which side was the German families (the completely silent, somewhat alarmed side).

The stoic side was definitely the German side.

Dad said, “I’ll come when they confer your PhD.” Sorry Dad.

Fbjsr, how do you give somebody the diploma’s hand, and why would somebody shake you when you do it?

Did you mean “shake the hand of the person giving them the diploma?”

An exchange student from the Belgian Congo is not “afro-american”. He’s African.

In December 1989, I was part of the only University of New Orleans graduating class ever to have their graduation delayed by snowfall.

Ralphie’s familia and classmates were also asked to not bring any type of noise makers, signs, flowers, etc…. But we applauded those who did anyway! A couple of flowers here and there, 1 horn blew, and of course, the “familia” with their “signs!!” We just can’t help showing how proud we are!! And we love showing everyone we too are part of the graduating with “honors” group at RHS!!
