Baldo: Why do you use cabbage and onions in your soup? That stuff smells! Baldo: Why not use ingredients that smell good? Baldo: Here we go! Baldo: Pizza and curly fries soup! Tia: And that's why you don't cook.
Overcooked cabbage is not good. My mother always cooked vegetables till they were mush. Most people hate veg because they have never had them cooked well.
I was raised on a farm and we always had fresh or frozen vegetables for dinner (could be why I like vegies so much). One summer my older brother had some friends spend the summer with us. One day we were having dinner and one of his friends was really enjoying the dinner vegetables and asked my mom what they were. my mom suddenly realized her mistake, “I’m sorry, your mom told me you didn’t like peas and I forgot.” “But these aren’t peas,” he said, “peas are yellow and mushy, these are green, firm, and delicious.” It turned out his mother had always served him canned peas, he didn’t even know what fresh peas looked like.

Use those things you proposed, Baldo, when you get your own place with kitchen.

It’s amazing how different the punchline from the aunt is in spanish compared to english. Makes me appreciate spanish that much more.

I love cabbage, bought some the other day and plan to make haluski (cabbage, sausage and noodles).
