    There was once a speaker appearing on TV who knocked out his front teeth on the microphone in front of him. How embarrassing. There must be a clip of it somewhere. I forgot about “Senator Bloop.” “Senator Snort” still appears occasionally in the “Grin and Bear It” strip, which see.

    Thanks for the comment. On Saturday afternoons lately I’ve watched old reruns of “What’s My line,” and I remembered the names of all the panelists except — who is the stone-faced guy with the bags under his eyes? Of course, Fred Allen! For some time when I was much younger, his wit was often cited in “Readers Digest.” As was Oscar Levant’s, Henry Morgan’s, and Bennett Cerf’s. Younger people reading this are wondering, WHO?
