I had a friend who would do this for receipts at restaurants while waiting for the waiter to return for the card. For a time, I took to signing just about anything for my name including âCard Wasstolenâ and âThisis Pointlessâ. The charge was never rejected unless the signature was âtoo shortâ like an attempt at the Artist Formerly Known As Prince symbol. I only stopped because of the occasional awake and persnickety cashier (read: new to the profession) who would try to make a federal case out of it, but even now itâs a half-hearted inconsistent scribble with one recognizable character.

Itâd be interesting if Michelangelo did that to the Sistine Chapel.

A signature is an identifying mark that you sign, often as proof of intent.
It doesnât need to be your name. It doesnât need to be legible. It doesnât even need to be words.
But an artwork that takes you three days to complete is probably over the top.
