When BD says “magnum” in panel 1, my first thought was a bottle of champagne.

How can BD hear the phone through his helmet?

A bunch of 1%ers built homes on the dunes of the north Oregon coast, where the geological survey had indicated that it was a dangerous and unstable site. When the dunes collapsed, the homeowners tried to get the state to compensate them. Some things never change.

It turned out I knew the owner and asked him why they were building the foundation so high above everything around him.He explained that federal regulations required him to build at least 6’ above sea level.“Yeah, but your foundation is right at 6’ high.”“That’s what it takes.”That part of Louisiana is far from the coast but still just about a foot or less above sea level.It beats New Orleans where they built in some cases 20’ BELOW sea level and depended on levees they refused to maintain..(Money was given but they decided to spend it on casinos rather than on the levees. Nobody cared until they drowned rather than walk to higher ground — and then they blamed Bush, of course.)
