Where I grew up, there was a town dog, a German Shepard mix with one bent over ear. She was known all over town and many townsfolk would feed or give her treats. Her name was Tinker Belle but we just called her Tink. Technically she belonged to a family that lived about 3 blocks away. When the leash laws were put in effect, the dog catcher would take all the other dogs, but Tink was left alone, too much public outcry ( not to mention that she could be just as likely to be seen at the police and fire stations or town hall.)Ah, memories.

In our town, if a dog is “out”, animal control grabs it as fast as it can. NO dog is allowed “out”!

When I moved years ago I learned the names of the dogs before their owners.

I don’t know all their names, but the dogs all know me and they come up the drive if I am on the front porch to get a small treat. I always have a box of Milk Bones on the table next to me…
