Cul de Sac by Richard Thompson for June 16, 2010
Transcript:
Mom: You sure made a lot of projects in preschool. Alice: This year, I achieved a number of breakthroughs in several new media: papier mache, tinfoil, double-wall cardboard, polymer clay and, most interestingly, pure glue. Mom: Next year, consider investigating computer and electronic media. They could expand your creative range, and storing and archiving your work would be a whole lot easier. Alice: I don't do that trendy fad stuff.

haha, know mom’s feelings - we’ve had to do some pretty harsh weeding out of the kids’ artwork from time to time.

Abstract Impressionist digital art:

The asymmetrical composition is what makes it daring.

I wonder how they stack up to Petey’s dioramas.

Today’s dialogue resembles something out of “Zippy,” though without any inherently weird art media.

I think this is Richard’s own self reflection about being dragged, kicking and screaming, into the digital age.

Hand crafts are the best, Alice. I’m VERY proud of my first pair of shoes - so COMFORTABLE and embroidered with silk and pearls-but after all that work, I’ll only wear them to special occaisions ;-)

Trust me, once they get into that “trendy fad stuff”, they’ll be just the other comics strip characters: Curtis, Jeremy (“Zits”), Preteena, Danae, Adam, and LuAnn (Comics.Com) and of course us, the posters. Not that that’s a problem.

yes ! no trendy fad stuff…. you go Alice.
I still use paper pen and paint… the feel of paint on a brush then on paper is the best. No computer can match that.

There are 10 kinds of people: Those who understand binary humor, and those who don’t.

I love the loose art detritus falling from the back of the car as they drive away.
