Petey: For a moment, it seemed like I was the only living survivor in a post-apocalyptic world. Alice: Was I there too? Mom: School's out! Let's go home!
@ JAXXXON: good luck with your transition. Change is hard. I hope you find some part-time or volunteer work that you find fulfilling with people who are great to work with!
In the meantime, print this comic, paste it on the fridge, and circle Madeline’s gleeful expression! That’s the attitude you want to mirror - although Alice’s “was I there?” will probably help, too.
JAXXXON retirement is the best! I took a few part time jobs for a while, and did volunteer work. All were great and helped the transition. Are you handy? Do some projects around the house that you’ve been putting off for ‘someday’ That day is here! My husband just laid a flagstone patio. It looks great!
I worked for a school district for twenty four years as a twelve month employee, in a high school for the last seven. Every single day in the summer was like this strip.

I thought you might be a little more anxious to get out of there, Petey.

It’s like walking through a post-apocalyptic diorama, Petey.

nah… it’s just the realisation that what was - is now gone…what your life was used to - is over.
Time to MOVE ON!! you must wipe the ‘chalk-board’ of your life clean!
(I’m actually talking to myself - third party as a therapist - I just retired, and I am feeling lost - feeling sad that the life that I had, is over

…the people that I looved to work with, and the ‘group’ feeling that we had - is gone… ‘Whisk it away, Calgon!”
It is now gone!!!!!
On to tomorrow!!!

He was anxious, Grog. He’s Petey. That is how the last day of school feels in the building. All can get cleaned up next week.

Isn’t that always how it seems on the last day of school ? Or at least like you’re driving away from a disaster area .
