Trump, the irascible Republican nominee was “frustrated” with Pence’s deft responses and polished lines that, often times, hit Kaine and Clinton without overtly defending Trump.
“The media is saying Pence won, but didn’t really defend Trump. That isn’t sitting well with the boss,” the source told CNN’s King about Pence’s approach to go after Clinton early and often and defend Trump late and little.
Pense had to agree to take the VP spot knowing that Trump had very little chance of winning. His only logical objective would have been to further his own political career with the national exposure. Using that exposure to defend Trump’s seriously disturbed view of the world does not contribute to that agenda. He has to use it to look like the sane member of the Republican party. If he can pull that off, he is a good bet for 2020, since there is very little competition for that role.
