It’s not that hard to find rocks in New Hampshire; that’s why it’s called “The Granite State”. For instance, you learn early that you take your life in your hands when using a Slip’n’Slide.
Same thing where I live – I think I dug up more rocks than dirt when trying to put a french drain in!
Though in this case, if the teacher has her students doing this on the school grounds every year, there probably aren’t many rocks left to find! Poor Stick :)
For most of my life I lived in Iowa and South Dakota, where the dirt is black, rich, with relatively few stones. Then I moved to MIssouri and tried to dig a hole in my yard. The ground is a mixture of clay with rocks thrown in.
I don’t know how much of those rocks are left over from previous Ice Ages which were few and far between. Look at the graph that shows that hot periods lasted far longer than cold ones. We are expected to heat up substantially. And maybe sooner than previously thought.
