I have no idea where this is leading, but I expect someone is due to face the wrath of Lila. We know she is quite able and willing to stand up for her friends, especially when they can not stand up for themselves.
Bad position here, pretty much anything Boyd may do or say will put him in a worse position. Lila on the other hand…
If marriage is a Holy institution, it violates the 1st Amendment to recognize it. A domestic partnership contract could be between any number of any gender, & could be notarized anywhere. Have whatever ceremony you want, without the government.
I agree with ChukLitl. Marriage is the last vestige of Church & State. I say that both opposite sex and same sex partners should have the same entitlements - or alternately neither should have certain entitlements - depending on cost to taxpayers, etc. Let marriage be a church thing. People can choose a church that supports their convictions.
Marriage itself is a legal contract, that’s why you have to pay the state to get a license. And why you have to go to court to dissolve the union. So it should be unconstitutional to deny two legal adults the right to enter in to that contract. The religious ceremony is a whole different issue.
Been following Lila for a couple months so far and I really enjoy the strip - but this new character worries me - from this week’s series it looks like you’re stereotyping those who aren’t gay. Not everyone who is not gay thinks this way you know.
And even those who think gays should not get married don’t necessarily see it in the way this character does - there are people who see gays on the same level as anyone else regardless of sexual orientation and deserving of equal rights, but simply think it makes sense to use a different term other than “marriage” with all the implied baggage the word carries.
“Marriage” is the socio-religious term.
“Domestic partnership” is the legal term, regardless of whether it’s uniting homosexuals or bisexuals.

Is she laughing with them or at them? I agree that Brittany is totally uncool.

In the end, though, it’s just a word….
