I assume Regular means leaded gas, what gas stations even sell that anymore?

Old cars (earlier than the mid 70’s, I think) need leaded gas or modifications to the engine, because unleaded can seriously damage it.

If the car is designed to work with leaded 87-octane gas, it should work just as well with unleaded 87-octane.

The reason older cars often run better with high octane gas is simply because older engines (that haven’t been rebuilt) tend to have compression problems that don’t manifest as much with high octane fuel. The lead has nothing to do with it.
