I’ve seen several movies where a man has to do something big in order to win a woman’s hand in marriage, and by the time he does it, they’re both interested in other people. Then there’s “Eternal Darkness,” in which the woman doesn’t wait and gets killed, but her ghost talks the man into joining her in death.
