Men’s tennis has a larger problem: Beyond Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic, nobody knows who Nick Kyrgios or any other player on the tour is. What attention the sport does get goes to the women.
The descent from a gentleman game started with Jimmy Connor and was perfected by John “The Brat” McEnroe. McEnroe is now portrayed as an elder statesman, “nuff” said. I totally concur with GuiltyBystander, though I could do without the grunts.
Lest we forget Illie Nastase. While Kyrgios can be a bit petulant, mens tennis needs a villain. Oh yes, while talking about petulance, let’s not leave Serena out of the mix.
In Canada recently Kyrgios was caught making sexual comments about his opponent’s gf who happens to be a Women’s Tour player. During the match. Fined and wrist slapped.
Just looked up his parentage to see if he had any Caribbean or African ancestry, like Dustin Brown does. No, Nick’s father is Greek and his mother is Malaysian. So Kyrgios is not black or mulatto; with a German mother and Jamaican father, Dustin Brown IS mulatto. Nick Kyrgios plays tennis for Australia, Dustin Brown for Germany. Just looking for the next Arthur Ashe; it’s easier to find new professional black female tennis players (even newer than Sloane Stevens) than new professional black men tennis players. I am interested in who LOOKS black in the meantime, at least in SOME photos. I thought Nick Kyrgios looked Malaysian, all right, in a childhood photo.
